Take great video with the Syma X5UC
This time Syma is releasing the Syma X5UC which is one model in the brand new line of quadcopters they’ve been releasing lately. It’s a new unique design and features altitude hold, 2MP 720p camera, headless mode, and one key takeoff/landing.
The design of this new quadcopter is a unique look compared to their other quadcopters, it’s small, lightweight, and sleek. This one comes in white only with red accents and features prop guards and landing gear which leaves it low to the ground.
Weight isn’t conclusive but appears to be around 120g.
The battery on this quadcopter is just a regular battery with the standard Syma plug in a plastic housing to make changing battery easy and simple. This allows the possibility for you to use batteries you already own if you can find a way to keep them in the quadcopter.
I’ve flown this quadcopter and can confirm that it performs very well, the altitude hold works perfectly and camera has very little wobble. It’s really a nice flyer and would probably be my go to recommendation for an altitude hold quadcopter with camera.
The camera on this quadcopter is 2MP 720p (1280 x 720) and records video to a microSD card on the back of the camera. Camera mounts to the bottom and locks onto the quadcopter with a twist lock.
Camera angle isn’t adjustable, points at a slightly downward angle but nothing too crazy, and camera wobble is very low which makes for nice video.

Obviously this camera isn’t cinema quality but it is a very nice camera for the price.
The transmitter itself is on the smaller side, fits very nice in the hands and has what I would call “console controller” joysticks so if you’ve owned a game console in the last 20 years it should be very familiar to use.
There are shoulder buttons on the left shoulder for video/photo functions, buttons on the right shoulder for flipping and auto takeoff.
If you press in the right joystick you’ll change your flight speed and can also enter headless mode, the left control stick when pushed activates the trim function.
Trimming the quadcopter
Trimming might seem difficult at first but it’s actually pretty easy, press in and hold the left control stick then by pushing the right stick the opposite direction of the drift you can correct for it.
Altitude hold on this quadcopter makes it very easy to film video since you don’t have to worry about adjusting throttle and I’ll say it again, altitude hold works great on this quad.
Overall the Syma X5UC is a great addition to Syma’s lineup of already great quadcopters. Altitude hold combined with camera and battery life make it a nice quadcopter to fly. Click the button below to pick up this great beginner quadcopter.
