SYMA is finally getting into the game of GPS enabled drones with their new SYMA X8 Pro GPS quadcopter. GPS is a hugely sought after feature when recording video so it’s nice that SYMA is finally catching up with the times.
Additional features include altitude hold, WiFi FPV, auto GPS landing, headless mode, and up to 9 minutes of flight time.
Design wise (aside from GPS hardware) just like the rest of the SYMA X8 series all of the detachable pieces feature easy removal via clips making it quick to teardown.
The motors on this quadcopter are brushed which is less than ideal for power but it has worked fairly well for the X8 series so far.
As for the GPS functions it is uncertain as to how the return to home feature will be controlled. Hopefully it is the transmitter rather than the phone app, if it is the transmitter that gives the option to use something better than the lower quality 0.3MP camera.
The camera for the SYMA X8 Pro GPS is mounted to the bottom of the quadcopter on an adjustable angle. Video is streamed and recorded to your phone via WiFi FPV which means that your video will have slight latency and quality will depend on signal quality between phone and quadcopter.
The transmitter is the same style they’ve been sending out with all of their new quadcopters lately and features a relatively buttonless front face with shoulder buttons, flat style control sticks, and buttons in the control sticks themselves.
Trim is adjusted using a button combination rather than using fixed hardware buttons like many other transmitters.
The SYMA X8 Pro GPS is looking like a nice quadcopter if you’re looking for something low price with GPS. Camera-wise the video is going to be a little bit lackluster because of the low quality video so hopefully it will be possible to attach a higher quality camera. All in all not a bad looking quadcopter and you can click the button below for more information.
