Today I’m going to take a look at the X8TW which is a new folding quadcopter featuring WiFi FPV, altitude hold, one key return, headless mode, flip mode, and 6 minutes of advertised flight time.
They’ve designed the folding arms on this quadcopter superbly and in my opinion is one of the best implementations that I’ve seen in these types of quadcopters so far.
Looking at the actual arms they’ve raised the back set slightly above the front allowing you to fold it more compactly and they’ve also made it so that the landing gear folds into the bottom of the quadcopter.
Since the FPV video is transmitted by using WiFi it is usually going to have a little delay on the video viewed to your phone or tablet that increases based on range. This can make it very difficult to manage throttle over the delay, luckily thanks to altitude hold on the X8TW you don’t have to actually worry about battling the throttle.
The video itself is likely saved to your phone as the store listing has no mention of SD card which means it will be a lower quality recording increasing or decreasing based on signal quality
Taking a look at the transmitter on the X8TW you don’t really have anything super special, just your run of the mill “console controller” style body, flat top control sticks, easy to use buttons, and a small LCD in the center.
One extra feature they’ve included is a “throw to fly” featuring which as the name implies lets you toss the quadcopter and upon giving it throttle it will auto hover.
For the most part the X8TW is looking to be a decent quadcopter with a nice feature set for the price. WiFi FPV combined with altitude hold makes for an easier to fly quadcopter and the folding capability makes it extremely compact. Click the button below to pick one up for yourself.
